Stan is a hitman who was paid to kill Marv. Stan and another hitman confronted Marv at Kadie's and took him into the alley.
Marv killed the other hitman and shot Stan in the groin. After being interrogated Stan reveals his employer is Telly Stern. Marv shoots Stan in the head and takes his trenchcoat.
